Ella Rose's recommendation for the BFG

I have reccomended The BFG because it has some cool and helpful people in it. Like the queen and the Heads of the army and the royal air force.
My favorite bit is when Sophie tells the BFG about her life but the sad bit is that her parents died when she was a baby and that she has to stay in giant land.

Charlie and the Chocolate factory by Freya

Freya has been reading Charlie and the Chocolate factory and she has written a description of the story at home!
Once there was a boy called Charlie, his family were very poor.Charlie wanted to find a golden ticket so he could go to the chocolate factory. Four people had already found the golden tickets. His family thought there were no tickets but there was more tickets. Charlie kept getting wonka bars. Then he found a golden ticket, all the people were laughing and cheering... The next day he went with Grandpa Joe to the chocolate factory. He was going in and they had to sign something. Then they went into a small room. Next they went into the chocolate room. They went into the great glass elevator...

Our book project

As you know, we are studying Roald Dahl this year as part of our reading project in Beech class. Today, everyone in the class is bringing home one of Roald Dahl's fantastic books to read. You can read them to yourself or to someone at home. When you have finished, remember to hand your book in and then you can swap it for another one. We'll be doing lots of fun activities all about the books you have read.
Happy reading!

Lily-Mai's winter poem

Winter freezing over leaving its icy touch
Icles hanging down like painted knives
Noses cold, red like santas coat
Trees standing bear in the sun
Elves merrily making toys for all the good girls and boys
Rudolph leading the stary Night well the peple sleep tonight

Our Stone age day!

Yesterday we went back in time and became stone age children (and teachers!) We had a fantastic day and everyone looked brilliant in their costumes. We made necklaces, mini bow and arrows, bone shaped biscuits, cave art and finished the day with a story around our indoor fire!

Stone Age Bone Age! Our visit to the museum

We had a great time at the museum last Friday. We found out more about life in the Stone Age, Iron Age and Bronze Age. We even saw the bones of a woolly mammoth as well as its gigantic tooth.

We made some flour by grinding wheat between stones and made our own Stone Age weapons.

Maddi's 100wc

The guns go bang but you could still hear the soldiers talking to each other.
The bombs go boom.
The wives are worrying about their husbands, wondering if they will come back safely.
The bombs go boom.
The mailman giving post to the wives and children walking, while the wives are crying in dismay because their loved ones have been killed in the war.
The bombs go boom.
Many people died in World War 1 and today is a very special day because at eleven o'clock people across the world will stand in silence for two minutes to remember the people that died in World Wars.
The bombs go boom.

Visit from the Fire Service

Today we had a visit from some firefighters.  They came to tell us all about fire safety. Our morning was split into two parts.
One half of the morning was spent on the fire engine where we had a go with the hose and we got to go in the fire engine. Inside the engine, we looked at all the things and the man told us about all the equipment that they use. We wore a firefighter's breathing mask which helps to stop them breathing in smoke in a fire.

The other half of the morning we spent in our classroom finding out how to keep safe in a fire and how to prevent a fire from starting. We used special voting controls to answer their questions which came up on the board.
Some of the things we learned were:

Smoke rises up so we need to keep low in a fire to let us breathe.
In an emergency we dial 999.
If we are in a fire and are trapped, we need to shout "FIRE" rather than "help".
Never go back into a burning building - not even for your pet.
Make sure you have a smoke alarm in your house and check it once a week. We had a really fun morning.
