A wintry poem by Naomi and Paige

Winter is white like crystalised snow and Santa's snowy beard. Winter is green like a glittery Christmas tree, like the grass popping out of the snow. Winter is red like Rudolph's shining nose, like Santa's cuddly suit. Winter is brown like Rudolph's fur, like mince pies once they're cooked. Winter is blue like your frosty windows, and like slippy ice that has fallen on the floor. The big ending..... HO, HO, HO Merry Christmas to all!

Friday 12 December 2014

We wore our Christmas jumpers today to raise money for Save The Children. Our whole school managed to raise £142.99 and everyone looked fantastic. We even had a go at designing our own. Have a look.....

Ella Rose's recommendation for the BFG

I have reccomended The BFG because it has some cool and helpful people in it. Like the queen and the Heads of the army and the royal air force.
My favorite bit is when Sophie tells the BFG about her life but the sad bit is that her parents died when she was a baby and that she has to stay in giant land.

Charlie and the Chocolate factory by Freya

Freya has been reading Charlie and the Chocolate factory and she has written a description of the story at home!
Once there was a boy called Charlie, his family were very poor.Charlie wanted to find a golden ticket so he could go to the chocolate factory. Four people had already found the golden tickets. His family thought there were no tickets but there was more tickets. Charlie kept getting wonka bars. Then he found a golden ticket, all the people were laughing and cheering... The next day he went with Grandpa Joe to the chocolate factory. He was going in and they had to sign something. Then they went into a small room. Next they went into the chocolate room. They went into the great glass elevator...

Our book project

As you know, we are studying Roald Dahl this year as part of our reading project in Beech class. Today, everyone in the class is bringing home one of Roald Dahl's fantastic books to read. You can read them to yourself or to someone at home. When you have finished, remember to hand your book in and then you can swap it for another one. We'll be doing lots of fun activities all about the books you have read.
Happy reading!

Lily-Mai's winter poem

Winter freezing over leaving its icy touch
Icles hanging down like painted knives
Noses cold, red like santas coat
Trees standing bear in the sun
Elves merrily making toys for all the good girls and boys
Rudolph leading the stary Night well the peple sleep tonight

Our Stone age day!

Yesterday we went back in time and became stone age children (and teachers!) We had a fantastic day and everyone looked brilliant in their costumes. We made necklaces, mini bow and arrows, bone shaped biscuits, cave art and finished the day with a story around our indoor fire!

Stone Age Bone Age! Our visit to the museum

We had a great time at the museum last Friday. We found out more about life in the Stone Age, Iron Age and Bronze Age. We even saw the bones of a woolly mammoth as well as its gigantic tooth.

We made some flour by grinding wheat between stones and made our own Stone Age weapons.

Maddi's 100wc

The guns go bang but you could still hear the soldiers talking to each other.
The bombs go boom.
The wives are worrying about their husbands, wondering if they will come back safely.
The bombs go boom.
The mailman giving post to the wives and children walking, while the wives are crying in dismay because their loved ones have been killed in the war.
The bombs go boom.
Many people died in World War 1 and today is a very special day because at eleven o'clock people across the world will stand in silence for two minutes to remember the people that died in World Wars.
The bombs go boom.

Visit from the Fire Service

Today we had a visit from some firefighters.  They came to tell us all about fire safety. Our morning was split into two parts.
One half of the morning was spent on the fire engine where we had a go with the hose and we got to go in the fire engine. Inside the engine, we looked at all the things and the man told us about all the equipment that they use. We wore a firefighter's breathing mask which helps to stop them breathing in smoke in a fire.

The other half of the morning we spent in our classroom finding out how to keep safe in a fire and how to prevent a fire from starting. We used special voting controls to answer their questions which came up on the board.
Some of the things we learned were:

Smoke rises up so we need to keep low in a fire to let us breathe.
In an emergency we dial 999.
If we are in a fire and are trapped, we need to shout "FIRE" rather than "help".
Never go back into a burning building - not even for your pet.
Make sure you have a smoke alarm in your house and check it once a week. We had a really fun morning.

Ella-Rose's 100 wc

I was walking down to the woods with my friends. We were playing 'spot spooky Halloween stuff.' So, Elsie went first and said "What's that creepy, black, ghost thing over there?" We all blinked. But from the blink of our eyes he was gone! I said "Where's he gone?" in a scared voice. We all heard a faint scream, it was like somebody's child had been stolen. "Does any of you have signal on your phone to call our mums?" suggested Mia. There came that faint scream again. There was a problem, none of us had signal...

Lukas' 100 wc

One Halloween night my eyes shot open with excitement! The first thing that came into my head was: I can't wait, it's Halloween this evening. At lunch my mum got the costumes ready. They were a bat, a skeleton, a ghost and a wear wolf. That night I couldn't get to sleep! Suddenly I heard a creak of the door...

Christopher's 100 word challenge

Ren was in a bad mood. She had lost her quiver and that made her grumpy. We were heading in the direction of the stone mouth that Narik had said about. Ren had decided that she hated Narick. He had dropped her quiver in the river. She was grumbling about it. "How could there be a stone creature with a stone mouth, and how do we get in?" complained Ren. "If you ace the only one capable of it, (she meant saving the forest) how do we..." I interrupted her.
"On the hill!" I exclaimed. There was the gaping mouth of the stone creature. "It's not a stone creature, it's a cave!" I entered... I could not believe the smell! (it was a bit pongy!) I went to the tooth, yanked it out and ... "The bear!" screamed Ren...It was too late...

This week...

There won't be any maths or spelling homework this week as it is assessment week in school. It's important to keep working at home though, so why don't you play some of the games on this great website to practise your times tables.

Maggie's 100 word challenge

This week we had to include '...as I looked around...' in our writing.

On a foggy day I looked around - by the way, my name is Ottoline and I'm with my best friend Mr Munroe. As I looked around the world changed into candyland! There were caramel cops, cookie children. Suddenly there was a clear announcement "go into the woods," cried Queen Selestia. At that, Mr Munroe saw a cheeky figure dancing in the fire. "Ha ha, a goblin!" I cried cheekily.

Shea's 100 word challenge

As I looked around I saw a deep dark hole, lots of rabbits were down there because it was their home. They were so evil. One of the rabbits had a glittering tail (It was blue!). As I poked my head through the deep dark hole my head got stuck so the rabbits pushed and pushed but I couldn't get out. The rabbits pulled and pulled with all their might and I fell down the hole. When I fell down the hole it took ages! I bumped my head at the bottom. Then I had to go home (yay!)

Maddi's 100 word challenge

Whizz! I climbed through the portal and I found myself in a bowling alley, but it was no ordinary bowling alley. As I looked around I didn't see humans, I saw aliens! The bowling balls were square! I thought I was dreaming so I pinched myself but I was still standing there! I felt very confused indeed. What's going to happen next?

Remember to vote!

Remember to vote in our poll (on the right!) to choose which author you would like to study this year! We'll look at the results together on  Monday.

Stone age art!

We had lots of fun on Tuesday afternoon during our art lesson. We are going to be making our own cave paintings in class, so we went outside into the forest schools area to collect materials to make paint! Next lesson we are going to our paint to draw pictures and create our very own stone age cave wall!

What do we want to find out about the Savage Stone Age?

In our history lesson today, we have worked with Mr Morris to think about questions that we want to research during our discovery about the Stone Age.
We came up with some excellent questions...

Swimming

Your first swimming session is this week on Wednesday 10th September.

Remember to bring your costume (no bikinis for girls) and swimming shorts. You will also need a towel and can bring a brush if you need one. If you prefer to swim with goggles, then you are welcome to wear them. Please do not bring any money with you.
Pack it all in a bag which is separate from your normal school bag.
You may get hungry so bring a snack for tuck for when you get back to school.

We will swim for ten weeks with half term break in the middle.

First week back...

What a wonderful first week back we had in Beech class. Everyone came back to school ready for the new school year with happy, smiley faces.

Mrs Prior and Mrs Round were so impressed by the children's efforts and noticed how kind and caring they were to each other - always very important, don't you think?

We started our new class reading book which is 'Stig of the Dump' by Clive King. We will be doing a lot of work around Stig this term linked to or 'Savage Stone Age' topic.

We also talked about our rights and responsibilities and came up with a class charter. Look out for this displayed in our classroom.
